The amount of each ingredient included in ProRenal+D is carefully considered by a professional Renal Advisory Board, based on a review of the latest scientific evidence.
Vitamin D levels may be low in patients with kidney disease, and the right amount is crucial for supporting bone health. As kidney function worsens over time, the bodies of some patients may lose the ability to make Vitamin D and may be at increased risk for fractures. Most major medical societies recommend a daily dose of Vitamin D.
Iron is needed to make red blood cells and maintain a healthy blood count. Iron levels are often low in patients with kidney disease, which can lead to anemia, a condition of low blood count, which can lead to further complications.
Zinc in the right amount may help protect cells from free radical damage. Zinc levels may decline over time in patients with kidney disease.
Selenium acts as an antioxidant that binds free radicals to protect cells against oxidative stress. Selenium levels may decline over time in patients with kidney disease.
Copper acts as an antioxidant in the body, protecting cells from free radical damage and neutralizing harmful peroxides. Copper levels may decline over time in patients with kidney disease.
Riboflavin is important for energy production and supporting healthy vision. Riboflavin deficiency commonly occurs in patients with kidney disease who are following a low protein diet.
Niacin is involved with energy metabolism.
Some vitamins may be harmful
These ingredients are limited in formulation. The Kidney Advisory Board, comprised of leading experts, evaluates the most recent scientific evidence and recommends limited amounts of certain nutrients to support kidney health.
Vitamin C in proper amounts may support overall health, but too much may lead to kidney stones.
B-Complex Vitamins—Vitamin B6, Folate, Vitamin B12—are vitamins kidney patients may become deficient in and thus supplementation may be required. The appropriate levels of supplementation are vital for kidney patients, as evidence suggests high doses of B-complex vitamins may be potentially harmful.
