Why ProRenal™ vitamins are right for you.

The Facts on Fish Oil (Omega-3 Fatty Acids)

The only supplement recommended by the American Heart Association for the prevention of coronary heart disease is Fish Oil- the important components of which are called Omega-3 fatty acids. It is important to remember that when you hear about people taking fish oil supplements containing 1000mg of fish oil, this does not mean they contain 1000 mg of omega -3 fatty acids. Actually that dose usually has 250-300mg of omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids have a number of potentially useful medical benefits, including lowering cholesterol, and blood pressure, preventing blood clot formation, and preventing abnormal heart rhythms. The benefit of fish oil in these various health conditions appears to depend on the dose of fish oil that you take.

ProRenal QD with Omega 3™ contains fish oil – all in one multivitamin. As always, talk to your Physician to discuss your use of these and any supplements.

The Importance of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an important nutrient that helps your body function. Although its major role is to help your intestines absorb calcium from your diet, it also plays a role in the health of your other organs, such as brain, prostate, breast, and colon. Vitamin D has also been shown to help the immune system, increase insulin production, and even affect the strength of your heart muscle and overall muscle strength. Low amounts of Vitamin D can have the opposite effect and can negatively affect your health and how you feel.

Although people can get Vitamin D from various places such as sunlight, diet, and supplements, it is estimated that one billion people in the world have low levels of Vitamin D resulting in a variety of health complications. ProRenal QD with Omega 3™ and ProRenal Vital™ contain 800IU of Vitamin D and was formulated to provide the appropriate amounts of Vitamin D for people with kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundation has stressed the importance of Vitamin D by recommending that "[o]nce patients are replete with vitamin D, continued supplementation with a vitamin-D-containing multivitamin preparation should be used…”. As always, discuss with your Physician the use of these and any supplements.

Recently, the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) initiative released guidelines for giving vitamin D to people with CKD. They suggested that in people with CKD - including those on dialysis and who have received kidney transplants - vitamin D levels should be checked and deficiency treated with nutritional vitamin D. By containing vitamin D, ProRenal® multivitamins remain on the forefront of nutritional supplementation in CKD by complying with national and international guidelines.
